Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
Welcome to the sixth grade! My name is Mrs. Brandy Catarat. I am pleased that your child will be placed in my class this school year. With your encouragement, your child will be part of many exciting and rewarding experiences this academic year. I have compiled this classroom handbook to provide you and your child with information of the policies, procedures and expectations for the new school year.
Classroom Discipline Plan
I believe that lifelong success depends on self-discipline, I have developed a classroom management plan that gives each student the opportunity to manage his or her own behaviour. I will discuss the plan with the students, however I would appreciate it if you could also review the plan with your child as well. In working together we can ensure that your child will receive the most positive educational climate and experience as possible.
Classroom Rules
Respect yourself and all others.
Be a good listener
Raise your hand
Work quietly and efficiently
Try your best!
If a student chooses to break a classroom rule, these are the following consequesces:
1st Warning- verbal warning
2nd Warning- Name on the board for 5 min afterschool
3rd Warning- written assignment and a phone call home
(some behaviours require a more severe consequences as decided by the classroom teacher)
Homework Expectations
Students will have to take uncompleted assignments home at the end of the day. I expect to have the assignments back to me the next day first thing in the morning to avoid the risk of being left behind. Occasionally I will send extra practice home with the students to complete with the same return expectation. At times I will keep students in afterschool to complete assignments as well, unless other arrangements are made between the parent and myself.
We are trying to prepare students for the demands of upper grades, and homework is an essential part of the daily life of responsible students.
Library Loans
Students in the sixth grade will be expected to complete book and research reports. Each student has access to the school/community library. Students are encouraged to use the library as a source of their research and not only rely on the internet. Students are asked to take care of the books that they take out. In the event that a book becomes damaged or lost the student is asked to pay for the book or replace the book. For more information on the Library hours you can contact Darlene Petit at the school.
Absenses
If your child is absent from school, please call the school as soon as possible or send an explanation note when your child returns. All class work that is missed is expected to be made up within two days. For a weather day policy please refer to the Twin Lakes Communtiy School handbook.
Parent Conferences
If you would like to meet with me or have a telephone conference, you can send a note with your child or call me at the school 235- 4240 to make an arrangement. The best times to have such meetings is before school begins and after school dismissal.
